Geared Up – Case study

Nutmeg were commissioned by Barnet Impact & CommUNITY Barnet to deliever an 8 week program for young from black and ethnic miniority backgrounds. The program focused on increasing awareness of the risks of drugs and alcohol aswell as personal development.

The Geared Up programme aimed to create opportunities and guide young BME people (particularly those that are NEET), into the world of training, work, business, leisure and non-using peer groups as a tool for limiting and preventing relapse in drug problems..Overall the project was implemented effectively and the following objectives were met:

-Improved young BME people’s access to current provisions of drugs and alcohol support
-Engaged young people who are at risk/using drugs and alcohol
-Created opportunities for young BME people to develop their skills and gain new skills
